Brief History:
    Welcome to Dickey, Population 42!

Dickey was founded by Alfred Dickey, in the James River Valley.  Mr. Dickey had a homestead, at a bend int he river called "Dickey's Landing" in 1879.  Alfred Dickey knew the railroad was coming through, so he had Dickey plotted in 1881.  Most of the lumber for the town was brought from Jamestown by rafts down the James River. The first school was built in 1882, the first church in 1888.

We are proud of our farm and ranch community, we may be small but we have a lot to offer!

Points of Interest:

There is only one  other town named Dickey.  Besides the scenic valley, Saratoga Spring, a Stage Coach stop (1881-1908).  We also had the first family to live in LaMoure County (1880).  The Milledge Roscoe's of Mova Scotia, Canada.  Plus there is something to do for all seasons.  Good hunting and fishing, groomed snowmobile trails, 9 hole golf course located 7 miles away, archeology up and down the valley and, of course, the glowing grave stone.

So, if you have a chance to stop in our little town, you won't regret it!

The Dickey school closed in 1970, most of the kids went to Marion.
