September is National Preparedness Month

Preparedness Starts at Home is the 2025 National Preparedness Month theme. FEMA and Ready.gov provide four key plan for disastersactions to prepare for any disaster: Know Your Risk, Make a Family Emergency Plan, Build an Emergency Supply Kit and Get involved. During the month of September, inventory your risks at home and take steps to be prepared. 

First, know you risk. LaMoure County participates in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Detailed floodplain maps are available for the James River throughout LaMoure County as well as the Maple River through Edgeley. Floodplain permits are required in these areas. Contact your respective floodplain manager of visit the county website to learn more about your flood risk or completing a permit.

However, flooding isn’t the only hazard to LaMoure County residents. It is also time to restock your Emergency Supply Kit for vehicles and homes as the days are getting shorter and winter weather is approaching. Making a plan early helps you reduce stress and save time and money. Follow four easy steps and create a free Family Emergency Plan quickly and easily.
