Winter Weather Awareness Week

Severe Winter Weater Awareness Week is October 30-November 3, 2023

North Dakota Severe Winter Weather Awareness week will be recognized October 30-November 3rd, 2023.  During this week, residents are reminded to prepare their homes and vehicles for winter conditions and also review plans to receive information about severe winter weather, road conditions and building closings.

The website www.ready.gov/winter-weather suggests homes have a winter weather survival kit with bottled water, packaged food, flashlights, batteries, and a basic first aid kit. At least one working carbon monoxide detector is recommended for each home.  For your vehicle, make sure you have gloves, warm clothes, blankets, packaged food and water and cell phone/charger to make your survival kit complete.

Before going out on the roads, make sure to check conditions at https://travel.dot.nd.gov/ or the free app: ND Roads available on Apple App or Google Play Store or dial 511. The North Dakota Department of Transportation website reminds motorists to take a NO TRAVEL ADVISED seriously as motorists who choose to travel at their own risk may become stranded and emergency responders may not be able to reach them safely. A NO TRAVEL ADVISED has the potential to change to a ROAD CLOSED OR BLOCKED. Motorists who drive past a road closure device may be fined.
