LaMoure County updating the Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan
LaMoure County has completed a draft of its new Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan (MHMP) and is now seeking public feedback. Like other North Dakota communities, LaMoure County is vulnerable to a variety of natural hazards such as tornadoes, severe winter storms, drought, and extreme temperatures, which can threaten life and property. Planning and mitigating for natural disasters can reduce the impact from future events and increase community resilience. This plan helps to identify and prioritize those projects.
All county residents, as well as other interested agencies or stakeholders are strongly encouraged to review the draft plan and provide feedback as community input is vital to the success of the plan. Feedback may be emailed directly to kelli.matzek@paramountplanning.net or to LaMoure County Emergency Manager Kimberly Robbins. All comments must be received no later than Tuesday, December 2nd.

FEMA requires state, tribal, territorial and local governments to develop and adopt hazard mitigation plans as a condition for receiving certain types of non-emergency disaster assistance, including funding for mitigation projects. Jurisdictions must update their hazard mitigation plans and re-submit them for FEMA approval every five years to maintain eligibility.
